PLAN 5 DAYS/4 NIGHTS

Imporatnt: there are no fixed itineraries because we adapt to the conditions of the climate, the routes followed by the fauna, etc. The following gives you an idea of a 5 day/4 night itinerary.

DAY 1
Rurrenabaque – Beni River – Serere
( TO SEE DETAIL )
Reception in Rurrenabaque. Lunch is provided in town or you will be given a packed lunch for your river trip to Serere. The Beni River is one of the most interesting headwaters of the Amazon.

You will travel for approximately three hours along the river inhabited by the Esse Ejjas, amongst the last nomads in Bolivia, passing through the territory of a great variety of tropical birds that can frequently be seen on the shores, as well as capybaras (the world’s largest rodent), alligators, caiman, and others.

Upon arrival we take a walk of approximately 30 minutes to base camp which is on Lake San Fernando. You will lodge at a spacious, completely screened-in cabin with a private bathroom. The main lodge is 350 meters away.

Take note: during their stay in Serere bird lovers can take daily walks at dawn.

Depending on your luck, as you travel by river to or from Serere you may see caiman, turtles, or capybara.

DAY 2
Lake San Fernando
( TO SEE DETAIL )
After breakfast, we start with a morning walk towards the Beni River to observe the birds and other fauna as well as the huge trees and variety of flora in the tropical forest. You will learn about the use of many of these plants and be given tips on how to spot animals.

Return to the main lodge for a rest and lunch. In the afternoon we cross Lake San Fernando by canoe and initiate a walk to visit one of our “chacos”, i.e.agricultural parcels made in the traditional indigenous style where we grow our food organically.

We continue the walk through the forest, including a visit to some rubber trees where you will learn about the traditional exploitation of rubber in the region as well as the important history of this product in Bolivia, Peru, and Brazil.

We will pass through a mud lick used by the animals to feed and cool off. We then canoe back to the main lodge at sunset, offering you good opportunities to photograph birds and the sunset over the lake. Dinner at the main lodge.

DAY 3
Lake Gringo
( TO SEE DETAIL )
After breakfast, we take a walk observing the flora and fauna until we reach Lake Gringo, home to many caiman, anacondas, and a wide variety of fish. Many species of birds like to fish here. We have lunch here and take advantage of the cabin and hammocks to rest during the hottest hours of the day and to observe the fauna from the bridges.

During the afternoon you can walk along the trails bordering the lake and canal and/or go for a row by canoe on the lake. As this lake is currently overpopulated with piranha, if you like to fish this is your chance to catch one! Late afternoon and sunset are spent by the bridges and point of the lake as this is a favorite passing point for birds, fish, caiman, and, with any luck, you might view the anacondas that live next to the bridge.

Return to camp for dinner (take a flashlight to view the animals at dusk). In the evening, depending on the choice of the tourists, you can share our experiences in the conservation and creation of protected areas, go for a night walk or search for tapir, agouti, night monkeys, or other fauna by canoe.

DAY 4
Lake Isla y Lake Negro
( TO SEE DETAIL )
After breakfast, we will walk to Lake Gringo where we stop for a brief rest, taking advantage of the breeze at the bridge and looking for the fauna that could be nearby. We will then continue the walk to Tacuara, a port with a cabin and facilities on Lake Isla.

This area is home to tapir, jaguar and other mammals. We will have lunch and take a rest here, spending the hottest hours of the day under the canopy of the trees.

We will then embark on canoes for a tour that is a little more adventurous, due to the wind covering parts of the lake and canals with yomomos (water plants) where caiman, anacondas and other snakes, and birds’ nests are hidden.

Where the wind has covered the canals we will weave our way through the yomomos to reach Lake Negro. This area tends to have an interesting variety of birds including macaws as there are many fruiting palms and other fruiting trees. We disembark at a port on Lake Negro and return by trail to base camp. Take a flashlight for night viewing of animals during the last part of this walk!

( TO SEE DETAIL )

According to your schedule, after breakfast or lunch you return to Rurrenabaque by river
